Admiration is the social emotion generated by people who have competencies, talents, or skills beyond the standard. Admiration facilitates social learning in groups and motivates self-improvement through learning from role models.

Sara Algoe and Jonathan Haidt incorporate admiration in the category of other exuberant emotions, in addition to admiration, altitude, and gratitude. Learning skills are so important to our evolution that we feel positive about talented or skilled people, to approach them and imitate their actions. Admiration is an emotion that facilitates learning in social groups.
Relation with achievement capabilities
Following from the view that the function of admiration is learning and self-improvement, some authors have proposed that admiration will only be active when we believe the increase is possible for us, but an empirical study has suggested the opposite, admiration is similar to the passive recollection of another advantage, while envy is an active motivating emotion when better performance can be achieved by us.

Admiration has also been studied in the context of intergroup by Susan Fiske and her colleagues. They suggest that admiration is the emotion we feel toward social groups that we feel as competent (or high-status) and warm (friendly and cooperative) (eg, in a study involving students in the US, examples of groups that are considered competent and warm are English ). Admiration relates to the intention to mingle, work with, and help members of the admirable group.
