" Lose Yourself " is a song by American rapper Eminem from the soundtrack to the 2002 movie 8 Mile. The song was written by Eminem and produced by Eminem along with old collaborator Jeff Bass, one half of the Bass Brothers production duo, and Luis Resto. The album was released on October 28, 2002, as the lead single from the soundtrack.

"Lose Yourself" received praise from music critics, with many critics praising the theme of an inspiring and aggressive song and describing it as Eminem's best work to date. Eminem said that "Lose Yourself" was written on set, during breaks during filming 8 Mile . Music video

The music video that accompanies the song, directed by Eminem, the managers of Paul Rosenberg and Phillip G. Atwell, was released on October 7, 2002. This video is a mix of several scenarios, mostly including some scenes from 8 Mile , it also contains scenes that address real-life Eminem's problems, as well as the "B-Rabbit" difficulties, including the exclusion by the rap community against her because of her color, and her difficult personal life.

"Lose Yourself" is the most successful single in Eminem's mainstream career. Once released, the song became a worldwide success chart, peaking at number one on 24 national charts worldwide, including US Billboard Hot 100, making it Eminem's number one hit in the United States. It has 12 weeks running at # 1 in the United States and Australia, and topped the charts in many other countries including England, Ireland, New Zealand and Denmark. It debuted at number nine in Canada and moved to # 1 the following week. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, "Lose Yourself" became "The Longest Running Single at Number One for Rap Songs" at 23 weeks. With over 6 million copies sold in the United States, it was Eminem's third best-selling song, just behind "Love the Way You Lie" and "Not Afraid".

The song went on to receive an Academy Award for Best Original Song (the first ever rap song ever to win this award), beating out other nominations such as U2 "The Hands That Built America." Eminem, who was not present at the awards ceremony because he believes he will not win, said in a Shade 45 Behind the Board interview with Cipha Sounds that he really slept, with cartoons for his daughter, at the time the award was announced. This is the first time in 14 years that the winners of the Best Original Songs category did not perform at the ceremony. Luis Resto, one of the song co-producers, has attended the ceremony and received the award on his behalf. "He's creative, he has a symphony on his head," Resto said on the podium about Eminem.
