The Milky Way bar is a chocolate candy bar that is produced and distributed by the Martian confectionery company. Introduced in 1923, the American version of the Milky Way bar is made of caramel-brown nougat chocolate and covered with milk chocolate and sold as a Mars bar elsewhere. The global Milky Way is a chocolate candy bar similar to American 3 Musketeers.

American version

The Milky Way blade was created in 1923 by Frank C. Mars and originally produced in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Names and flavors were taken from a famous malt milk drink (milkshake) that day, which in turn was named after Earth's galaxy.

On March 10, 1925, the Milky Way trademark was registered in the US, claiming the date of its first use in 1922. In 1924, the Milky Way Bar was introduced nationally and sold for $ 800,000 that year. Chocolate for the chocolate coating is supplied by Hershey's.

In 1926 came out in two flavors, nougat chocolate with a layer of milk chocolate, and vanilla nougat with dark brown coating, each for nickel. In June 1932, the Milky Way bar was sold as a two-piece bar, but just four years later, in 1936, chocolate and vanilla were separated. The vanilla version, with dark brown coat, is called " Forever You " and was produced until 1979. In 1989, Forever you were reintroduced and renamed "Milky Way Dark ," and later " Milky Way Midnight ".

In 1935, the slogan was "The sweet one you can eat between meals." Then changed to "At work, rest and play, you get three great tastes in the Milky Way." In 2006, the US slogan was "Convenience in every bar." and recently became "Better Life with the Milky Way."

In 2010, the Bimasakti Simply Caramel bar went on sale. This version has no nougat and is made of caramel covered in milk chocolate. In 2011, a pleasing size offer from the Simply Caramel bar was introduced.

In 2012, Milky Way Caramel Apple Minis goes on sale as a limited time offer for the Halloween season.

The American Milky Way bar contains 240 calories in every 52.2 gram bars, while the smaller Milky Way Midnight contains 220 calories in every 50 gram bar and the Milky Way's Simply Caramel bar contains 250 calories in every 54 gram bar.

Marketing

In November 2012, a new print and digital ad campaign was launched in the US called "Sorry, I'm Eating the Milky Way". This campaign illustrates the funny consequences of what happens after someone (outside the camera) is disturbed by eating billiards of the Milky Way. This campaign started from the insight that eating the Milky Way is a slow process and is involved because of its caramel, chocolate, and nougat.

Global version

The European version of the bar does not have caramel toppings, and consists of a nougat center that is much lighter than a Mars bar. Because of this low density (0.88 g/cm 3 ), it floats when placed in milk. This rare attribute is used for advertising campaigns in Germany, France, Russia, Belgium, Ireland, Poland, the Netherlands and the UK.

Initially available in Europe only in the taste of chocolate, the center turned into a vanilla flavor around 1993, although chocolate flavors still remain available in Australia. The bar is also available in flavor bananas, mangoes, and strawberries.

In England, Mars introduced the Flyte bar which is identical to the old-fashioned brown-style Milky Way but only comes in twin packages. The Flyte bar was later discontinued in 2015. Also available in Europe is the Milky Way Crispy Rolls, a roll of covered chocolate wafers with milk cream filling.

The popular children's derivative of the Milky Way bar known as the 'Milky Way Magic Stars' is also sold in the UK and consists of a small aerated brown star form. Initially, every star is carved with different smiling faces, each representing one of the magical star characters depicted on its packaging. The characters are: Pop Stars, Jess Stars, Sunny Stars, Super Stars, Twinkle Stars, Falling Stars, Happy Stars, Sports Stars, Smart Stars, and Baby Stars. Recently, however, the characters and each engraving have been discontinued, presumably to lower production costs.

Depending on the version consumed, the caloric intake is different. For the English version, this bar is 96 calories.

Marketing

The long advertising slogan for products in the UK and Australia is, "Sweetness you can eat between meals without ruining your appetite". In 1991, the Health Education Authority and anti-sugar lobbyist both complained, without success, to the Independent Television Commission that such advertising encouraged children to eat candy between meals. The ITC agrees with Mars that its advertising in fact encourages a controlled meal.

However, snack marketing like the Milky Way has changed since the 1980s, with the focus now being the opposite of what it is. Instead of the Milky Way and similar foods (eg Cadbury Fudge) into snacks that will not prevent a person from eating regular food, modern marketing defines this snack as a food that will reduce hunger at mealtimes and curb appetite between the two. In 2003, sweet marketers like Andrew Harrison of NestlÃÆ'Â © saw the reduced social stigma attached to not eating three meals a day, and thus no longer liked the old Milky Way slogan.

Probably the most famous ad originally aired in 1989. It featured a 1951 red Buick Roadmaster and a 1959 Cadillac Series 62 blue that had a race with a red car eating everything in sight. The blue car instead ate the Milky Way. The advertisement ends with a red car crashed over the bridge because it is too fat and the blue car wins the race. This ad was relaunched in 2009, albeit with major edits, such as lyrics and alerts to remove fake claims that do not spoil one's appetite.

The Milky Way's ads in the 1990s showed how light the stems of the Milky Way are by showing that they float on milk. However, this actually shows that they are less dense than milk. Milky Ways still floats in milk today, except for the USA version, which has caramel on nougat, making it denser than the world version.
