Operation

List

Apple ID is available for free and can be obtained by registering on the My Apple ID web page. The Apple ID must be a valid email address, protected by a password that is an alphanumeric string of at least 8 characters, and case sensitive.

When a user creates a new Apple ID, Apple will send a verification email to the email address that the user provided during registration. Users are required to follow the URL included in the verification email to activate the account, then users will be able to use their Apple ID. You can create an Apple ID without specifying a credit card.

In March 2013, Apple ID launched an optional two-step verification security feature for authentication. When enabled, a second verification step is required when using Apple ID under certain conditions, such as a web login, or making a Store purchase from a new device. This feature uses the Find My iPhone service to send a four-digit pin code to a trusted device associated with an Apple ID when a second verification step is required for authentication.

Modify

Users can change their password or personal information on the My Apple ID page by selecting the Manage your account link. Changes that users make to their Apple ID account, when they use one Apple product, are also recognized by other apps where users are using the same Apple Account (for example, Apple Store online, MobileMe or iPhoto). Apple requires users to confirm the changes by following the verification URL that will be sent to the account's email address. After confirming the changes, users can still be asked to verify their information the next time they use their Apple ID to buy on-line, e.g., in the iTunes Store.

Apple also allows users to rename their Apple ID but users are required to contact Apple's customer service to make those changes.

Fetch

Apple IDs may be disabled for security reasons if an incorrect password was entered multiple times. Users will be warned with the following error message when account has been disabled: "This Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons". Apple ID and password can be retrieved by answering account security questions in iForgot. For security reasons, Apple will not reset the password for the account.

Another error is "Your Apple ID has been disabled" without revealing the reason. The cause of this error is unknown and the password reset of someone is unclear. It has been reported on both iPhone and iPod Touch devices as well as in iTunes. One can resolve this issue by contacting iTunes Store support at www.apple.com/support/itunes.

Some Apple IDs

Users can use different Apple IDs for their store purchases and for iCloud storage and other uses. This includes many MobileMe users who are always in trouble because they are forced to use more than one Apple ID, because when signing up for MobileMe service, a new Apple ID is automatically created using the me.com email address created at that time, meaning that the user can not change the address their previous Apple ID emails into their me.com email address and always stay that way. Apple does not allow different accounts to merge.

Apple does not support the incorporation of Apple IDs with other Apple IDs or with AOL IDs created as Apple IDs.

Usage

personalized macOS and iOS

The Apple ID contains the user's personal information and settings. When Apple ID is used to sign in to Apple devices, such as an iPhone or iPod Touch, the device will automatically browse the user settings associated with the Apple ID.

Apple ID also speeds up the process of setting up a macOS computer or a new iOS device. When the user first starts a new product, he or she will be asked to enter the Apple ID, if available. If the user enters the Apple ID as requested, the macOS and iOS devices will take the user directly to the desktop screen without making any initial setup. The computer will automatically fill all personal data from Apple ID into the device's address book, contact information, and Apple Mail settings.

Apple hardware and Apple Care Protection Plan registration

Apple ID is required to register all Apple products or AppleCare protection plans on the Apple website. Product registration or protection plans may be made on Apple's registration website by entering the product serial number and Apple ID.

Concierge (for Genius Bar promise)

Apple ID is required to make a reservation at Apple Genius Bar, a technical support service offered within each Apple Retail Store. Using Apple ID, users can schedule appointments at Apple Genius Bar for help and support on all Apple products.

Apple Online Discussion

Apple Discussion is a user-to-user support forum where Apple experts and users come together to discuss Apple products. Any user can browse and read discussion forums without the need for an Apple ID. However, the Apple ID gives users the ability to participate in the Apple Discussion website as it allows users to ask questions about any Apple hardware or software product, to receive help, tips, and solutions from other Apple users.

Apple Online Support

If a customer needs to deliver Apple Products by mail to Apple for maintenance, the customer must have an Apple ID to make such a request. The ID can also be used to track the status of the requested service.

Furthermore, Apple IDs can be used to schedule supported phone calls from Apple technical support to guide customers through the system setup process or to perform certain tasks such as using Time Machine software in macOS to back up data or color calibration. Apple Cinema Display.

Apple Rebate

The Apple ID is required to file a rebate claim on the Apple Rebate website. The claim submission process is very simple. Users only need to sign in with an Apple ID and provide a purchase transaction number. All required information such as mailing address and customer name will be completed by Apple ID.

iWork publishing

iWork Publishing enables Apple ID users to upload and share iWork projects like Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. Published content can be viewed publicly or by any user invited via iWork.com. Users do not need to know if their colleagues are using a Mac or PC. Because iWork is a web-based service, anyone with a web browser and internet connection can use it.

On July 31, 2012, iWork.com was closed to support iCloud, Apple's cloud service.

FaceTime

FaceTime is a video call feature for iPhone 4 or later, Mac OS X 10.6.6 Snow Leopard or higher, fourth or newer iPod Touch, and iPad 2 or later. However, the Apple ID is not required to use FaceTime if someone has an iPhone (Someone can call with their iPhone number on Mac, iPod, and iPad). The Apple ID serves as an alternative.

iPhoto and Aperture photos and photo book order

Apple ID allows iPhoto or Aperture users to place photo print orders or photo books directly through the iPhoto and Aperture apps. Apple ID will provide shipping information as well as payment for orders. Users only need to select the photos they want to print, select the printing service, and place orders.

Apple Developer's (ADC) ID Apple Online Store

Apple ID is not required to place an order at the Apple Online Store. Apple allows buyers to place orders in online stores without Apple IDs using Checkout Guest Feature. Apple ID and Guest Checkout feature allows customers to access order info such as invoices, check order status, and track shipping packages. However, the Apple ID allows users to customize their Apple Online Store experience. Users can save items they want to buy; save the cart if they are almost ready to place an order; save shipping and billing addresses and payment information to speed up the checkout process; use the 1-Click order on the Apple website and check Apple Gift Card balance.

Apple digital store

Apple ID gives users access to purchase (or download for free) and then free download from many Apple-based sources, including:

  • iTunes Store: music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, audiobooks, mobile ringtones.
  • iBooks Store: ebooks, interactive books, digital textbooks (works on iOS and Mac devices running Mavericks).
  • Newsstand: magazines and newspapers (currently only available on iOS devices).
  • App Store: iOS App.
  • App Store Mac: macOS app.

iTunes Store, App Store (for iOS apps), Mac App Store, iBooks Store, and Newsstand all use Apple ID. For

buying digital media like movies and music in the iTunes Store or App Store, an Apple ID is required. Users can use Apple ID and password to sign into the iTunes Store or App Store to purchase content or authorize items that users have purchased. The ID is proof of ownership for content previously downloaded by a user from an Apple digital store.

Apple ID allows users to re-download the content they purchase for one of their devices. For iTunes on a computer, Apple ID is authorized to copy purchased content up to 5 computers at once. Apple has not confirmed exactly how many iOS devices can use content purchased from one ID.

According to Apple support, "Your Apple ID can have up to 10 devices and computers (aggregates) associated with it."

iCloud

iCloud is cloud storage service and cloud computing from Apple Inc. launched on October 12, 2011. In January 2013, the service has more than 250 million users.

This service allows users to store data such as music and iOS apps on remote computer servers for download to multiple devices such as iOS-based devices running iOS 5 or later, and personal computers running OS X 10.7.2 Lion or later, or Microsoft Windows (Service Pack Windows Vista 2 or later). It also replaces Apple's MobileMe service, acting as a data synchronization center for emails, contacts, calendars, bookmarks, notes, reminders (to-do list), iWork documents, photos and other data. The service also allows users to wirelessly back up their iOS devices to iCloud rather than do it manually using iTunes.

iTunes Ping

Apple ID is required to access iTunes Ping, also known only as Ping. iTunes Ping is a social network oriented software, music oriented, and recommendation system service developed and operated by Apple. Ping has been stopped.
